Perched on the picturesque Tuy Van Mountain, Thánh Duyên Pagoda is a treasured spiritual site from the Nguyen dynasty. With its unique multi-tiered architecture and over three centuries of history, the pagoda remains a sacred destination for pilgrims and history lovers exploring Hue’s spiritual heartland.
Overview of Thanh Duyen Pagoda
Originally built in the 17th century under Emperor Nguyen Phuc Tan, Thánh Duyên Pagoda was restored by Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu in 1692. In 1825, Emperor Minh Mang constructed Thuy Ba Pagoda on the site, which was later renamed Thanh Duyen in 1836 after extensive renovations and the addition of Dai Tu Pavilion and Dieu Ngu Tower. The pagoda’s structure includes a three-compartment-two-wing sanctuary, a three-compartment Dai Tu Pavilion with gate and surrounding walls, and the 12-meter high, three-storey Dieu Ngu Tower at the mountaintop. Dedicated to the Three Buddhas, Guanyin, and Eighteen Arhats, the pagoda earned national recognition in 1836 and was officially classified as a national relic in 1996.
