Nestled on a verdant hill in Thuy Xuan ward, Tường Vân Pagoda is a hidden gem of Hue, where time seems to stand still. More than just a religious structure, the pagoda is a historical witness, intertwined with the ups and downs of the ancient capital and revered monks.
Overview of Tuong Van Pagoda
Founded in 1843, Tường Vân Pagoda has undergone numerous historical periods and renovations, especially under the patronage of the Nguyen Dynasty‘s royalty. In 1869, the pagoda officially became Tường Vân Pagoda after merging two worship sites.
Tường Vân Pagoda covers a vast area of approximately 30,000m2, with a traditional “Khẩu” (mouth) shaped architecture. The imposing three-entrance gate faces east, and the pagoda’s grounds are shaded by green trees, a crescent lake, a miniature mountain, and an ancient well, creating a serene space.
Tường Vân Pagoda is closely associated with the life and career of the late Most Venerable Thích Tịnh Khiết, who played a significant role in unifying Vietnamese Buddhism.
