According to history, before the Year of Binh Ngo (1306), the land with the Hai Van Pass belonged to the two provinces of Chau O and Chau Ri of the Champa kingdom. After being cut by King Champa. King is called Jaya Sinhavarman III as a marriage proposal to Princess Huyen Tran in 1306, the mountain pass was the boundary between Dai Viet and Chiem Thanh.
In the Nguyen Dynasty, Hai Van Pass was still the border between Thua Thien and Quang Nam. In the north of the mountain, bordering the sea, there is Bat cave, it is called Bai Tieu. Legendarily there were tsunamis; boats passing through were often submerged.
This is an important gate to protect the north-south path from the Le Dynasty. By the Nguyen Dynasty, in 1826, King Minh Mang built Hai Van Gate into one of the constructions to defend Hue Capital as well as supervise activities at the Da Nang seaport.
Not only is a place associated with many important historical events, Hai Van Pass is also a place that attracts passionated visitors to explore and experience by captivating and beautiful scenes.
Considered as “the most majestic wonder”, Hai Van pass is located on the Bach Ma mountain range and is the natural boundary between Thua Thien – Hue province and Da Nang city. With a length of 21km, the highest peak is nearly 500m high and is the most dangerous mountain pass, before there was no road tunnel through the pass; Hai Van pass was always full of traffic.
