Van Trach Hoa is a fascinating archaeological site showcasing the remnants of Champa civilization. Located in Van Trach Hoa hamlet, Phong Thu commune, Phong Dien district, this complex of ruined relics holds significant historical and cultural value. The site was first documented in the book “Statistics and Description of Champa Relics in Central Vietnam” by H. Parmenier in 1919, emphasizing its importance in Vietnam’s ancient heritage.
Details of Van Trach Hoa
Van Trach Hoa was officially excavated in August 1999 by the Thua Thien Hue Archaeology Institute and General Museum. Despite being a vast complex, the excavation primarily focused on an architectural structure where an altar had been found in 1991. During this research, experts also surveyed and documented other related constructions.
The excavation revealed three architectural structures. The main temple and two smaller northern towers were restored, giving visitors a glimpse of the original layout. Several artifacts were also unearthed, including an altar platform, two altars, three statue fragments, a Yoni-Linga platform, two Yoni platforms, and four thinly inlaid yellow metal objects. These discoveries indicate that Van Trach Hoa was a significant religious center dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries.
