This short trip brings you to the "must-see" sites in Hue: the Forbidden Citadel, a version of China's Forbidden City, home to the Nguyen Emperors of Vietnam from the 18th century until 1945, and Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the best-known Buddhist sites in the world.
We start with a visit to the Imperial Citadel. After accessing the Ngo Mon Gate, we will take in the Purple Forbidden City. The Forbidden City was reserved for the Nguyen royal family from the 18th century until the mid-1900s. Unfortunately, the American bombing in 1968 in response to a communist takeover of Hue flattened most of the city. As we can see, only a few buildings have survived such as the Thai Hoa Temple, Can Thanh Temple, The Mieu, and Hieu Lam Cac, but all the remains make a well worth visit. Leave the Imperial Citadel we drive along the bank of Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda. Here we visit the 7-story octagonal tower, a symbol of Hue. Afterwards, transfer back to your hotel by boat on the Perfume River.
